Slow Flow - Uniting in the Middle

The Vinyasa Channel

In this slow flow we bring our awareness into the deliberateness of lengthening and extending and stepping into poses. We do some deep stretching near the end of class to call in the energy from the edges to the midline of the body.

For this practice, you will need a blanket and a couple of blocks.

The Spotify playlist for this class, if you choose to play music at home is called Patti. Here is the link:  https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2gH3EZ0Sesv2gxSnkVtPMd?si=PKIAuEO2Qz-5zkQXm4nQIw

Friday Flow - Patti's Voice

The Vinyasa Channel

In this session we will get deep deep deep into the hips and gradually build to a place where it may be possible to work toward an arm balance - Ekapadakundyasana.  There are scenic overlooks for everyone so you can mind your edges in your hips and shoulders.

The Spotify playlist features covers by Patti Smith - with a few of her original tracks.  The Playlist is called Patti and here is the link if you wish to play it at home in your practice:  https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2gH3EZ0Sesv2gxSnkVtPMd?si=N3otA_RuSleBgOaVjpraXg

You will need a blanket and a couple of blocks for this practice!

Fall Equinox - Yoga for Peace

The Vinyasa Channel

This seasonal event marks the summer's end and the fall's arrival. Energetically, it represents the time to let go of tending what we are growing and let it flow into the natural flow of nature.  It is the merging of the Dark and the Light as the daylight and nighttime are balanced. We can recognize that in our own lives when we consider that all is one - the universe, the world, nature and us. One soul.

This is a very moderate flow practice with pauses to consider the words of global prayers for peace. We realize peace in the balance of the dark and the light. So declare a cease fire with your personal and inner conflicts and get on your mat with this practice.

For this practice, you will need a blanket and two blocks.

The Spotify playlist for the session is called "peace now" and here is the link to it in Andrea's Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6uwiGoH6EJRToX5ITNJkgQ?si=vWoIlid8TOemK2hOyTi6yg

Slow Flow - Planks for the Traction RBG

The Vinyasa Channel

We lost a good one this past weekend. Ruth Bader Ginsberg was strong and resolute even when faced with life threatening illnesses - plural!!  My fitness hero, she didn't let anything break her foundation whether it was in being Chief Justice or as a strong woman traversing her later years. Famous for her planking, we begin this class with an 87 minute plank to honor the 87 years of her amazing life. The practice in this session is finding our footing and breath to proceed through the sequences. Rest in Power, RBG!

For this practice please have two blocks and a blanket - of course have anything that you want to make savasana totally relaxing.

Yin & Flow  - Practicing Equanimity

The Vinyasa Channel

Finding your balance in the space between the past and the future and between all the conditions of life is a challenge minute by minute in life. In this practice, we will practice being present with exactly what we are doing now - working with the pulls to feel the eight worldly winds of life.

Slow Flowing In and Out of Equanimity

The Vinyasa Channel

Equanimity is a moving target that fluctuates between Pain/Pleasure;Gain/Loss; Fame/Disrepute; and Praise/Blame.  I like to think of it being 'not too much and not too little' in any given moment. Finding equanimity is a useful skill that comes in handy when we are in the midst of change. It helps us get our bearings and to remember to remain open because to be open is to be in equanimity. Can we be open to all that is here right now? Can we feel front to back; side to side; top to bottom? Can we listen and understand before we plunge unskillfully into response? Can we remain open and grounded in the midst of chaos? This session explores this with the balance of lunges, twists and balance poses that challenge equanimity.

Lunges; Hips; Low Back and Shoulder focus.

For this practice please have two blocks and a blanket - of course have anything that you want to make savasana totally relaxing.

Friday Flow - Yachty Behavior

The Vinyasa Channel

In this session we set sail for smoother waters where the wind catches our sails and we move forward in a mellow groove. There are times when the wind is gone from our sails and we are stuck a situation that called for redirection. We did this practice live on the 19th anniversary of 9/11. The world stood still that day and this year we have experienced so much disruption from the pandemic. Flowing to this music from the 70's and 80's reminds us that can move forward and find our groove again.

In this session we will repeat sequences to go deeper into stretches and to trust our stability in balance moments. It all leads up to an opportunity to play with a side crow arm balance.

Lunges; Hips; Low Back and Shoulder focus.

For this practice please have two blocks and a blanket - of course have anything that you want to make savasana totally relaxing.

Labor Of Love Flow - 75 mins

The Vinyasa Channel

This practice honors those who have labored to make it possible for us to be here today. We all have someone we know who has worked tirelessly to ensure others - family members, community members, our nation - have what they need to live and have a sense of ease. This year, most especially, we can honor those who have put themselves at risk on the front lines of this pandemic to ensure that we are safe. We can honor ourselves and the hard work we do every day to contribute to the wellbeing of others and ourselves. You are encouraged in this practice to be your own hero and to take care and work to find ease and goodness in the poses, movements and transitions.

Yin & Flow - Ifs, Ands and Buts

The Vinyasa Channel

Conditional Thinking gets us in trouble with ourselves. We put conditions on ourselves and circumstances and that sends a message that what is right now is not enough, not right, and needs to be changed in some way. We do this enough and it starts to wear down our sense of self.  In this practice we will explore that with some emphasis physically on the butt. Yep. In the Yang part of our practice we will pay particular attention to the sturdiness of the back leg in warrior poses by engaging the butt muscles (or glutes for you anatomical types.). Simple movements with strong focus. The Yin part of this practice releases the low back through some back bends and twists.  Props for this practice - a couple of blocks and a blanket.

Friday Flow - What if?

The Vinyasa Channel

In this practice we are paying attention to the steadiness of the body by way of the roots of the feet, the steadiness of the pelvis and the integration of the ribs. And...oh yeah, the breath.  The sequences in this slow flow will gradually build from warriors to balance poses that require a steady body and mind. We take it down to the floor and some deep hip work before we rest in the steadiness of savasana.  Props for this practice - a couple of blocks and a blanket.

FF What Lurks Beneath - Shark Week

The Vinyasa Channel

In this Friday Flow, we are celebrating Shark Week by recognizing what lies beneath our practices - you know that lurking feeling that challenges you to not do your practice. Too hard. Too hot. Too much effort. I'm on the coach and I don't want to move. Not enough energy.  Your practice says, "come on in. The water's fine." And you realize it's true as you dress for practice, put down your mat, step onto your mat and start breathing. Live Stream Friday Flow - Andrew

The Vinyasa Channel

This Friday Flow is a celebration of steps forward this week. In life, we often realize two steps back and three steps forward. Life was like that this week, this month on and off the mat.  Today we celebrate the steps forward for the LGBTQ community.  I am dedicating my practice and the playlist to my friend, Andrew. He lived half in and out of the closet. When he came out to his mother, she said, "no you aren't."  When he was diagnosed with AIDs and ended up an invalid from a suicide attempt, she wouldn't bring him home from Atlanta out of shame. I wish he were here today to see that steps forward. I created the playlist around his favorite songs - Madonna's Dress You Up and the B52's Love Shack. Maybe he is here with us and is celebrating. I like to think so. Get on your mat and celebrate. Notice the steps forward your practice is presenting and be aware of the steps back it sometimes takes. Keep on going forward!!!!  Happy Pride Month!

First class recorded in the studio since we left. Nothing was operating as expected, but isn't that now expected? What is next will be what it is and it may not meet our expectations if we are not careful about paying attention to change. Get some good stuff on your mat today. You don't need much - a mat and anything you want for savasana. The playlist for this class is on Spotify  - Andrea Perkins Dyer - Beware, Take Care.

But we got our practice in anyway! Enjoy! Try this outside too!

Under the Covers - Rock It

The Vinyasa Channel

It's a thisa and a thata and it's really an Ashtanga Mix, but it Feels Like a Friday Flow. Yin and Flow in the Heart and Lung Meridians in this session. Be open and connected with your sense of peace, joy and harmony and cultivate a sense of courage to be in this moment.  Remember that even when we practice alone at home, we are connected in our common desire and wish for strength for those suffering and those helping the suffering.

Feels Like A Friday Flow Who Are You?

The Vinyasa Channel

Who are you in this moment? Can you feel for that in your poses and transitions?

Slow:All Levels Flow

The Vinyasa Channel

Taking it Slow in this All Levels Flow class.  Recorded on April 1, this class is dedicated to paying attention to what your real, best choices are in the transitions and asanas. Don't be fooled by things that don't matter ...like how things look. Follow the feel good.

Yin & Flow Stomach and Spleen

The Vinyasa Channel

In this Yin & Flow class we are working in the Stomach/Spleen energy - finding Equanimity and Calm in the midst of turbulence and anxiety.  All we have to do is let go and be in the place where we are, feeling what we feel and not flinching, fighting or running away.

I shared this poem in the class:

She Let Go

a poem by Rev. Safire Rose

She let go. Without a thought or a word, She let go.

She let go of the fear.  She let go of the judgments.  She let go of the confluence of opinions swarming around her head.  She let go of the committee of indecision within her.  She let go of all the ‘right’ reasons. Wholly and completely, without hesitation or worry, She just let go.

She didn’t ask anyone for advice. She didn’t read a book on how to let go.  She didn’t search the scriptures. She just let go.  She let go of all of the memories that held her back.  She let go of all of the anxiety that kept her from moving forward.  She let go of the planning and all of the calculations about how to do it just right.

She didn’t promise to let go. She didn’t journal about it. She didn’t write the projected date in her Day-Timer. She made no public announcement and put no ad in the paper. She didn’t check the weather report or read her daily horoscope. She just let go.

She didn’t analyze whether She should let go. She didn’t call her friends to discuss the matter. She didn’t do a five-step Spiritual Mind Treatment. She didn’t call the prayer line. She didn’t utter one word. She just let go.

No one was around when it happened. There was no applause or congratulations. No one thanked her or praised her. No one noticed a thing. Like a leaf falling from a tree, She just let go.

There was no effort. There was no struggle. It wasn’t good and it wasn’t bad. It was what it was, and it is just that.

In the space of letting go, She let it all be. A small smile came over her face. A light breeze blew through her. And the sun and the moon shone forevermore.

Slow All Levels Flow Flow in Life

The Vinyasa Channel

This All Levels Flow is slow and opens up the fluidity of the spine.  Lots of yummy back bends. Open to the flow of everything going on right now.  You will need a yoga mat, a blanket and a block for this practice. Enjoy! Commenting is now available in the videos so you can shout out to your friends from the studio, comment on the video or just say Hello!

Everything Bagel Practice

The Vinyasa Channel

This is Andrea's personal practice - dogs and all. They like to OM. There's a bit of everything here - mediation, chanting, flow and stretch. Andrea guides us through the Granthis - the internal knots we carry in our roots, our hearts and our heads.  Real life yoga in Andrea's family room with her fur kids. Unfortunately, the video cut off at Janu Sirsasana. Complete the other side and then do a relaxed, passive spinal twist on both sides and then do an inversion of your choice. Set yourself into a nice long savasana.  You've got this. Enjoy!

Friday Flow - Infectious Flow

The Vinyasa Channel

This is a challenging flow for our Friday Flow yogis.  Infectious Flow has a playlist on my Spotify channel : https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3I5uqoWX74DFrsz8zPcsns?si=q6vG6oPlSVml5oTy0-WyWQ

You can start the playlist on Samba Pa Ti (Santana). For this practice you need a mat, a blanket and a block or two. I used some wall space, but it isn't absolutely necessary.  Oh and don't miss the spontaneous dance party at 37 minutes in. 45 seconds of dancing. Enjoy!
