Deep Deep Side Stretches AM

The Deep Stretch Channel

Happy National Coffee Day!  This session gets into our side bodies today with some IT band stretches. 

 

For this practice we will need a blanket and blocks and ALSO a tennis ball or foam roller if you have one. If not, get a beach towel or blanket and we will roll it up to give some firm support to target knots of tension in the side legs and hips.

Deep Stretch AM - All Over Feel Good

This session was recorded on the morning of the Fall Equinox. As we stretch this morning, into primarily the lower body, we also pay respects to RBG with some reverent planking and resistance to train the muscles.  For this practice you will want two blocks and a blanket.

Deep Stretch PM - Smooth Groove

The Deep Stretch Channel

Time for a long, slow deep smooth stretch. This session is a smooth groove line into the body - specifically the legs and back.  So settle in and let your approach to the stretches be open - not minding the state of things because yoga meets you where you are.

For this practice please have two blocks and a blanket - of course have anything that you want to make savasana totally relaxing. It is great to have wall space for this class, but if you don't, a chair, ottoman or bed it a good substitute.

Length and Space and the Flavor of a Stretch

In this practice we are using gentle movements and repetition to give length to muscles - releasing them from tension and giving space to the joints as we let tension go. There is some work on the back, some seated work and some standing so you may want the support of a chair for steadiness in some of the standing work.  This is a PM Stretch class so it is gentle and not an up regulating kind of class so you can slide into a fitful sleep.

 

For this practice you will want a block and a blanket.

AM Stretching with Faux Wall Support

In this session we are finding extra steadiness with the use of a chair to leverage deep stretches...on our backs, seated in the chair and using the chair to lend support as we go deeper into some strong stretches in standing poses. This practice primarily focuses on the legs and hips, however you will get a great stretch in the chest and shoulders by way of this practice.  Obviously, you will need a chair. Also may want a block and a blanket.

AM Stretch - Using a Faux Wall

Two blocks are used in this session to give us the sense of using a wall to anchor many of our stretches. We will work through most of the body, however, the emphasis is on hips and low back. We also use some easy repetitive movements to prepare the body for deeper stretches. 

For this practice you will need two blocks and a blanket. Of course, whatever makes you relaxed and at ease is useful for savasana - pillows and extra blankets make excellent bolsters if you don't have one handy.

This Deep Stretch session is devoted to the upper body - yummy stretches for your upper back and shoulders. Some of the stretches are done reclining, some seated and a few standing to get the loveliest of stretches. You will need a blanket and blocks for this practice.

Express Deep Stretch - Block Party w:Dogs

Get your blocks out we're having a block party...and bring your dogs. Mine joined in like the Bumpass Hounds today.  Deep hip and leg stretches - blocks added in to help us leverage length and space - a few yawning stretches too for resetting.  In this session you will need two blocks, a blanket and a chair. Have fun!

This deep stretchy session is focused on the back and the legs. Releasing tension in the lower body frees you up to be mobile and as ease with whatever comes your way. For this session you will need a mat, blanket and a block or two. Enjoy!

Long, Slow, Deep stretches that allow you to luxuriate in the feel good of letting go of tension and making room for new, positive, flexible energy! For this practice you willed a blanket, a couple of blocks and some cushions for extra support where and when needed.

When we explore and go into the wilderness, we make pathways that turn into roads and familiar territory.  This deep stretch session lets you explore and seek space in places of tension.  You will need a mat, 2 blocks and a blanket for this session.

When we explore and go into the wilderness, we make pathways that turn into roads and familiar territory.  This deep stretch session lets you explore and seek space in places of tension.  You will need a mat, 2 blocks and a blanket for this session.

Deep Stretch for the PSOAS

The Deep Stretch Channel

The Psoas holds the legs onto the torso and they are the fight or flight muscles (along with the calves) that propel us from danger. When we are stressed, the psoas tense up to help us instictually, however, when we don't flee or fight, the chemicals that are released by the brain in response to the nervous system become sludgy and gunky. When we stretch the psoas, we reset them and all is right in the world and with our posture. Get some! You will need a couple of blocks and a blanket. It never hurts to have a bolster or pillows nearby just in case.

Deep Stretch Short - Piriformis

In this session, we focus on stretching, strengthening and massaging the piriformis. This Deep Stretch Short can help you resolve the piriformis tension that can aggravate sciatica and other maladies from sitting.  For this practice you will need a yoga mat, a chair and a foam roller.

Deep Stretch Shorts - Glutes and Breathing

The Glutes are perhaps the most underused power muscles of the body. This short Deep Stretch session brings in a combo of strengthening, stretching and massaging the Glutes to help you find balance and stability. For this session, you will need a yoga mat, a chair, a resistance band and something like a step (maybe a yoga block or the bottom stair on your staircase), and you will love foam rolling at the end (pool noodle will do as well.)

Creating Shoulder Stability

This session falls into many categories - perfect for those wanting to build shoulder integrity. Perfect for those in the healing process from shoulder injuries/disfunction and perfect for those who carry tension in the upper back. Drop those burdens and get into your shoulders with your deep breath.  Grab a chair and a mat. If you have small hand weights ( 1, 2 or 3lbs) great, if not grab a couple of cans from the pantry or imagine weight and resistance in the shoulder vinyasas.

Deeply reach into your hips in this session. We go deeper through repetition and consistency. Just like when we want to change something off our yoga mats, diligence and attention is how we create positive change.
